Singleplayer
Singleplayer is the main gameplay of Superliminal. This mode follows a pre-determined storyline, featuring nine unique levels and lots of perspective-based puzzles within it. Players can collect five different collectibles here, along with most other achievements.
Multiplayer
This mode is added in the Group Therapy Update, and is the most recent feature added in the game. This gamemode two different types of gameplay.
Battle Royale
In this mode, players will race against each other in three different rounds. The map itself is different with the singleplayer map. It is divided into sections, and each section uses a similar theme used in the chapters in singleplayer. Every map is randomly generated; sections may look slightly different, and each section may appear in different order. Players can get dreamcoins in this mode, which can be used to customize their character.
There are 25 different sections we can encounter in the Battle Royale Mode, each one based on a chapter or other area. plus the starting and ending rooms (the name of the sections are not official):
Co-op
In this mode, players will be playing the same map used in singleplayer. The only difference is that there will be multiple people playing at the same time.
Extra Modes
Besides singleplayer and multiplayer, there are also other gamemodes that are mostly variations of the main game. These features are added along with Superliminal's launch on Steam on 5 November 2020.
Challenge Mode
This mode is similar with the singleplayer mode with a few caveats. Occasionally in the game, there will be sections which the player needs to complete with limited grabs and/or jumps. The number of grabs/jumps will be different in each section, depending on the complexity of the section.
Developer's Commentary
This mode is basically the same as singleplayer. The only difference is that there are special buttons which will appear on some spots in the game. When clicked, a member of the developer team (Pillow Castle) will talk more about the story behind the development of Superliminal, taking the player behind the scenes of the game. Some talking points include:
- The people who made the game
- Secrets behind the game's features
- The history of the game's development
Somnasculpt Workshop (Beta)
This mode lets players create their own levels (which are called "dreams") using the assets provided. Additionally, players can also import their own 3D models into the game to be incorporated into their level. Players can also share their 3D models and levels with the community and play levels created by others.
However, this feature is still in the Beta version and considered experimental. Also, this feature is only available in Steam, as this feature utilizes the Steam Workshop to host 3D assets and levels made by the community.
